Stricter Requirements for Tourist Visa Applicants

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok has instructed the Thai Embassies and Consulates abroad to be stricter with requirements when applicants are applying for Tourist visas for Thailand.

Required documents are:
•    One completed and signed application form
•    One photo (color, size 4 x 6 cm)
•    Passport (valid for no less than 6 months)
•    Copy of ID card
•    Copy of residence certificate (Carnet de Residence/ Family Record Book)

•    Company employees must prepare company work certificate (work permit)
•    Self-employed applicants must prepare business registration/license (original)
•    Students must prepare guarantee letter from university or student card and a copy of parent’s ID card and proof of parent’s
     profession
•    Pensioner must prepare bank statement or pension fund

•    Hotel reservation in Thailand with name and dates of checking in/out
•    Airline ticket or confirmations slip with flight number and date of entry/exit

•    In certain cases, a certificate of no criminal record is required.

Please note that consular officers reserve the rights to ask for additional documents as deemed necessary. In the absence of a required document, a letter indicating the unavailability of such document must be provided.

These new regulation will be implemented on August 26, 2011 with immediate effect but don’t affect the so called “visas on arrival”.
Tourists who have not obtained a visa prior to their visit to Thailand and arrive via a land border checkpoint will still be granted an unconditioned 15-days permission of stay. Those who arrive at the airport without a prior visa will continue to receive a 30-day stamp. Extensions at Thai Immigration after the visa on arrival has expired remain at 7 days.
